This working group explores the interrelation between armed violence and development. It seeks to advance the inclusion of goals, targets and indicators (GTIs) for the prevention and reduction of armed violence in the post-2015 development agenda.

Objectives
  • Explore GTIs to advance agendas for peace and the prevention and reduction of conflict and armed violence.
  • Advance an armed violence perspective in global policy dialogues and consultations on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Collaborate with leading civil society organisations in global policy advocacy efforts to advance the agenda on peaceful and non-violent societies within the post-2015 development agenda.
Activities
  • E-discussions and consultations
    Discuss and consolidate inputs from the working group on GTIs proposed for the post-2015 development agenda. So far this has included:
    • Indicators proposed by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN);
    • Goals and targets for the Beyond 2015 campaign.
  • Advocacy
    • GAAV is a member of the Beyond 2015 campaign Task Force on Peace & Security, supporting the development of language for goals and targets.
    • GAAV supports advocacy targeted at governments of the Open Working Group process developing Sustainable Development Goals.
    • GAAV will develop statements and briefings based on continued consultations with working group members on GTIs.
    • GAAV will mobilise CSOs engaged in the Geneva Declaration Regional Review Conferences to support implementation of GD, and a goal on peaceful and non-violent societies, with cross-cutting targets, in the post-2015 development agenda.
